I actually ventured out to the mall on black Friday with my grandma a few weeks ago to do some Christmas shopping while in Cali. It was the only real time we had to go so the only appropriate (and obvious) outfit choice comprised of black. So when I came out to the living room before leaving and my brother said, "who died" I knew I had made the right call ;) BTW this dress is everything and applicable for nearly every season- I suggest you invest in one ASAP via your local Nordstrom.
